A career change gave Matthew Lawson the opportunity to establish Knapp Joinery in 2017. This followed a lifelong interest in traditional woodwork which has included the construction of two boats and completion of a major timber framed house renovation project. Working from a well-equipped workshop close to Dover, the business offers bespoke joinery, furniture and gifts to the East Kent area and further afield for smaller items. Although machines are used to speed processing times, the focus of most projects is traditional hand work including dovetails and mortice/tenon joints.
Items are built with the expectation that, well looked after, their life will exceed that of the tree from which they were made and provide multi generational service.
A wide range of species are available but timbers indigenous to Europe are preferred including oak, sycamore, ash, chestnut, yew, pine and larch.
Whether you are looking for a bespoke piece of furniture, a built in cupboard, or a unique and personal gift, we would be delighted to help.
